• Dips and Delights: Cheesy Portobello Mushroom Dip

The Thanksgiving buzz has worn off. The fridge has been emptied of the best leftovers. The stockings may have been hung on the mantle with care. We’re onto another month of holiday celebrations. There’s no better way to get started than with this flavor-packed, umami-loving portobello mushroom dip from the second blogger in our Dips and Delights recipe series.

Sweet caramelized onions combine with rich and hearty portobello mushrooms for this decadent dip!

The Black Peppercorn created a dip worthy of holiday entertaining that could just as easily satisfy a lazy Sunday of football and appetizers. Creamy cheese is spiked with a hint of hot sauce and Worcestershire for a dippable delight. Combine the sweet decadence of caramelized onions with the rich flavor of sautéed mushrooms, and you’ll be dipping in with gusto. Cheesy Portobello Mushroom Dip


3 tbsp butter

1 onion, minced

3 portobello mushrooms, diced very finely

2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp hot sauce

1 package (325g) cream cheese

3 tbsp heavy cream

salt, to taste

3/4 cup cheddar cheese

Melt butter in a saucepan on medium heat. Add onions and Portobello mushrooms. Sauté until they are caramelized.

Reduce heat to low. Add the Worcestershire, hot sauce, cream cheese, heavy cream and salt. Stir until cream cheese is smooth and creamy.

Stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
